John “Jay” Porter, a former Hopkinton deputy chief of police, was indicted on three charges of rape of a child on Monday, May 1, according to Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan.
Porter allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old student while working for the Town of Hopkinton school system as a school resource officer between 2004 and 2005.
Porter was placed on administrative leave on August 7, 2022, for reasons that were, at the time, as reported by Daily Voice. He worked for the department for 30 years prior to being placed on leave.

Porter retired from the police department on Friday, April 28, according to a joint statement from the Hopkinton Town Manager Norman Khumalo and Police Chief Joseph Bennett.
"On Friday, Porter notified the town that he is seeking to retire, and the town accepted his immediate separation from employment," the statement read. “We are deeply disturbed and troubled by these accusations. These alleged crimes have no place in our community or anywhere else, and we extend our sympathies to the victim."
Porter's arraignment has not yet been scheduled. The District Attorney's Office and Massachusetts State Police are handling the investigation.
